UK and the UN

The UK could forfeit security council seat over Chagos Islands dispute, but a former diplomat has warned that this may put Britain’s place at the international top table in jeopardy.

President Macron, Chancellor Merkel and Prime Minister Johnson have issued a joint statement on the situation in Iraq.

Boris Johnson has spoken to Iran’s president, Hassan Rouhani, to urge an end to further military retaliation in the region, amid efforts to try to de-escalate the crisis sparked by the US killing of the senior Iranian general Qassem Suleimani. Meanwhile, he has stated that there is a “body of information” that indicated the Tehran plane crash was caused by an Iranian missile.

UK’s post- Brexit relationship with the EU

Boris Johnson has told the president of the European Commission that Britain is “ready” to kick off talks on a post-Brexit trade deal despite her warning his timeframe for an agreement is “impossible”. Meanwhile, Johnson is preparing to set up a dedicated new Brexit team by the end of next month as he seeks to take control of talks on Britain’s future relationship with the European Union.
