UN briefings: Human Rights up Front
UK-UNA granted the Sir Brian Urquhart Award for Distinguished Service to the UN to Andrew Gilmour – Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights. He was also Political Director in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (2012-16), during which time Mr Gilmour was responsible for implementing the Human Rights Up Front initiative. This briefing looks in detail at the Human Rights up Front initiative and where it is headed.
The 2019 Annual Impact Report of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) has been released. The report showcases some of the practical, varied and innovative work which BIICL, including our Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law, has been undertaking both in the UK and internationally.

UK’s post-Brexit relationship with the EU
The Brexit Party could step aside in hundreds of seats in what would be a huge election boost to Boris Johnson, it has emerged. Voters will go to the polls on 12 December after MPs finally backed Boris Johnson’s bid to hold a pre-Christmas election. Jeremy Corbyn confirmed that Labour will back Boris Johnson’s push for a snap general election after a three-month extension to the Brexit process was confirmed. Meanwhile, the EU has agreed to a Brexit ‘flextension’ until January 31.
